Wilderness Survival: The First 72 hours

What you do in the first 72 hours of a wilderness survival crisis decides whether you — and those with you — will live or die.

While that might sound severe, statistics show that in the first 72 hours, people lost or injured in the wilderness have three possible outcomes: 1) rescue, 2) death from exposure (hypothermia), or 3) death from dehydration.

Yet staying alive in the woods for three days is actually quite easy to do — if you know what to do and even more importantly, how to do it. Most wilderness survival classes fall short here.

What the Class will Cover

Our instructor, Tom Brown III, will share with you:

  • A list of gear you should always take with you outdoors. These inexpensive items not only mean the difference between life and death, they make an otherwise harrowing experience more comfortable;

  • The one mental state that increases your odds of survival exponentially;

  • Ancient indigenous skills guaranteed to heighten your awareness of the wilderness around you — preventing you from becoming lost in the first place;

  • The single most important skill to know that will keep you alive even in freezing weather — without a fire;

  • How to find water in any kind of terrain;

  • How to build and start a fire using natural or manmade material;

  • How to navigate over unfamiliar terrain;

  • What — if anything — you should be afraid of in the woods

This class effectively gives you an “insurance policy” against anything that might go wrong in the woods. With the knowledge you gain in this class, you can walk into the woods confidently, knowing you can take care of yourself and your group whatever happens.
